Amy recently relocated her practice from the Chicago suburbs to Northern
Michigan. She handles cases primarily in the areas of employment law, real estate
law, church law, and business litigation.

Amy’s Background
Amy graduated from John Marshall Law School (Chicago, Illinois) in 1996. After
graduation she worked for several law firms in Chicago and the surrounding
suburbs, where she gained experience in the areas of employment law, insurance
defense, contested guardianship and probate, and other litigation matters. She
tried several cases to jury verdict. In addition, she served as an arbitrator for the
Cook County Mandatory Arbitration system. Amy has successfully defended
clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois
Department of Human Rights, the Illinois Department of Employment Security,
and the Illinois Department of Labor.
In the fall of 2006 Amy opened her own firm – Stikovich Legal Counsel. Amy’s goal
was and is to provide excellent representation to individuals, small businesses,
small medical practices, and churches/religious institutions. She develops long lasting
relationships with her clients, and she has had many of the same business
clients for over 15 years. Amy relocated to Petoskey in the fall of 2016, and she is
enjoying beautiful Northern Michigan (even the never-ending winters). She
joined the Petoskey Chamber of Commerce, so she has been able to meet many
local business owners.

Areas of Practice
Amy offers Human Resources consulting – including evaluating current
practices/procedures, drafting policies, handling employee issues, etc. She is
continuing to develop relationships with local realtors and title companies – she
can help with a basic transaction or help you figure out how to clean up title. She
drafts all necessary documents (deed, purchase contracts, land contracts, etc.)
Something newer in Michigan is “Limited Scope Representation.” What that
means is that Amy can represent clients with just a small part of their case. For
example, if a client cannot afford to hire an attorney for the full case, she can draft
pleadings or just handle a few court appearances. This can be done on a flat fee
basis, as well.

Amy volunteers with Northern Community Mediation in Petoskey and Charlevoix.
She is currently working on earning my certificate in Estate Planning through the
Institute of Continuing Legal Education. She volunteers at her church and at
daughters’ school.
